Chase Ultimate Rewards: How to Save On a New Disney Discount

You booked a Disney vacation using Chase Ultimate Rewards. Then, Disney offers a new promotion and it’s a better deal. Obviously you want to take advantage of the better offer. Here’s our experience with tips on how to navigate Chase Travel and take advantage of the new discount.

Our Situation

Original Booking

We booked four nights at Aulani in a standard room this October for 141,650 Chase Ultimate Rewards through our Chase Sapphire Reserve card. The cash cost of this stay would have been $2,124.76 if we were paying cash.

Room Length of Stay Cash Cost Points Spent
Standard Room 4 Nights $2,124.76 141,650

New 5-Night Fall Stays Promotion

Disney recently introduced a great offer for 5-Night Fall Stays. It includes a 25% discount for our room type and $150 resort credit when you book before June 19th. An extra night after the discount was only an additional $59.24 (or 3,950 Chase Ultimate Rewards). Plus, we’d get the $150 resort credit, so we’d actually be saving money by staying an extra night.

Islands Garden View 5 Nights $2,184 145,600

How to Re-Book a Chase Ultimate Rewards Disney Vacation

Disney is truly unique in allowing guests to take advantage of better offers. And Chase Ultimate Rewards travel agents do not specialize in Disney vacations, so you’re likely to get a figurative raised eyebrow when you ask about getting a better offer after you’ve already booked. Here are some tips to streamline this process.

  • Find the exact package, travel dates, and pricing you want on the Disney website first. Chase actually books through the Disney’s website, so they’ll see what you see.
  • Call Chase Ultimate Rewards Travel at 855-234-2542 and ask to be transferred to the “Cruise and Tour” department. These are more experienced travel agents.
  • If you get any pushback, encourage them to call Disney. Since they’re booking directly with Disney anyway (usually through their website), this shouldn’t be a problem.

We had to explain that this is normal for Disney to honor new offers, but we ended up getting passed to a supervisor since the first agent didn’t seem totally convinced. She was able to make it work, but if she had been hesitant, we would have requested she call Disney to verify.

She allowed us to pay the difference between the new offer and original package in points, but we also could have paid in cash if we’d wanted to save those points.

Lessons Learned

Always keep your eyes open for new Disney discounts and know exactly what you want before you call Chase. A standard room at Aulani costs around $500 a night. Just by checking back periodically for new offers, we were able to get an extra night for free and save a little bit of money as well.
