Five Free Nights at Hyatt Regency Orange County

We had a chance to check out the upscale Hyatt Regency Orange County on our most recent Disneyland trip. We want to share our impressions with you and how you can get five free nights with one credit card sign up bonus.

Hyatt Regency Orange County

The Hyatt Regency Orange County makes you feel just a little more classy from the moment you walk up. From the palm tree-lined pathways to the fountain out front, you can tell this not your typical Disney-on-a-budget hotel.

Hyatt Regency Orange County Walkway

A hotel that makes a remarkable first impression, the 17-story atrium style lobby at the Hyatt will really make you feel like you’re on vacation. Even guest check-in makes you feel special compared to your typical Holiday Inn.

The heated pools and nightly S’mores by the outdoor fire don’t hurt either. This four-star hotel combines sophistication and family-friendly charm in a way that makes it popular with business travelers and families bound for Disneyland alike.

While we love this hotel, there are a couple drawbacks. First, self-parking and valet both cost $27 a day. The property is also about 1.5 miles from the entrance to Disneyland, so you’re unlikely to walk. This means you’ll probably be paying $27 a day for parking and the Disneyland shuttle fee of $5 for adults and $2 for children, which can start to add up.

Even with the additional transportation related fees, this is a great hotel, one we’re really excited about.

Chase Sapphire Preferred Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred is one of the top credit cards for rewards out there and the featured card in the Chase Ultimate Rewards lineup. If you only had one credit card, this would probably be the best choice for most people.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred comes with a very lucrative sign bonus. You get 50,000 points after you spend $4,000 in the first three months, and an additional 5,000 points when you add an authorized user who uses the card at least once. Using these points judicially can net you more than $1,000 in value.

Perhaps more importantly, these points transfer directly to Hyatt, Southwest Airlines, and nine other travel partners. So, points earned on this card can be transferred and redeemed for Hyatt stays.

Five Free Nights at Hyatt Regency Orange County

The Hyatt Regency Orange County runs 12,000 points per night for a standard room, so you’ll need 60,000 points for five nights. So, what do you need to do to earn enough points for your stay? Here are the steps:

  1. Apply for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card
  2. After spending $4,000 in the first three months and adding an authorized user, you’ll receive 55,000 points (plus the points you earned by spending $4,000)
  3. The most you’ll need to spend on the card to earn the extra 5,000 points (above and beyond the sign up bonus) is $5,000 total. This will get you to 60,000 points.
  4. Transfer your points to Hyatt
  5. The transfer is usually almost instantaneous, so you should be able to use the 60,000 points you transferred into Hyatt Gold Passport points within moments to book your five nights.

You do want to factor your additional parking and transportation fees when you consider the value. However, this property is also much nicer than most properties located a little closer to Disneyland. So, if you’re the type that would like a little extra comfort and amenities on vacation, this might be just the right place for you. After all, it is vacation.

At 12,000 points a night, you’re also getting solid value of your Chase Ultimate Rewards. Since the hotel averages about $227 a night with taxes based on our sample bookings, you’re saving $1,135 on your vacation. That’s a pretty nice chunk to save on a Disney vacation and an opportunity to vacation in style.
