How We Used Our IHG Annual Free Night

IHG has the best credit card perk. Period. Every year after your first card member anniversary, you get a free night at any of their hotels in the world. This includes hotels like the Intercontinental London Park Lane, Intercontinental Paris Le-Grand, and even resorts in places like Bora Bora.

This annual free night comes as part of your $49 annual fee. That’s a great trade-off!

Holiday Inn Club Vacation at Orange Lake Resort

We used our free night this year at the Holiday Inn Club Vacations at Orange Lake Resort. When you book this hotel on points (35,000 points per night) or use your free night certificate, you get a 1,200 square foot 2-bedroom villa. It’s perfect for large families!

The full kitchen was fantastic for cooking our own meals.

The rooms sleeps eight people, which was more than enough space for our family. It was big enough you could feel comfortable just hanging our in the room.

The rooms were nicer than your typical Holiday Inn and the bathrooms were much larger.

We had a great view of Magic Kingdom fireworks from our screened in patio (Room #87565). The fireworks were probably about two miles away, but they were still close enough to enjoy.

We could see Magic Kingdom fireworks straight out from our balcony.

While the room was fantastic, the resort itself was our favorite part. The water slides and lazy river kept us busy most of an entire day. The only downside to the resort is that it’s so large, it was literally a mile from our room to the front of the resort. It’s very spread out.

Inner tube rentals are $10 a day, but they’re not required.

I don’t want to brag, but I think I broke land speed records on this water slide.

We also spent a fair amount of time in the shaded hammocks near the lazy river.

IHG Rewards Club Credit Card

Sign Up Bonus

The IHG Rewards Club Credit Card is currently offering a sign up bonus of 100,000 points when you spend $2,000 in the first three months. You can an additional 5,000 points when you add an authorized user who makes one purchase in the first three months. This is a total of 105,000. IHG points are generally worth about 0.6 cents each, so 105,000 points will get you about $630 in hotel stays.

The Holiday Inn Club Vacations at Orange Lake costs 35,000 points a night, so this bonus could get three free nights.

Earning Rate on Daily Spending

The card also earns 5x points at IHG hotels, 2x at gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants, and 1x on everything else. Based on the value of the points, it would only be worth using this card at IHG hotels.

Annual Free Night

Most importantly, you get a free night every year. This is the reason to keep this card. We don’t use our card regularly, but we keep it for the free night each year.
