The Chase Freedom bonus categories this quarter are gas and purchases made with mobile pay (see below). You earn 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards for every purchase that fits one of those up to $1,500 spent this quarter. We’re earning tons of points and want to encourage you do the same.
Using mobile pay is guaranteed to embarrass you the first time you use it. Most stores don’t have a lot of customers using it so they’re not quite sure what you’re doing. Then, you open the app and hold your phone up the scanner and just hope it works. In fact, the first few times I used it, I held a credit card in my other hand just in case something went wrong. While it is a little strange to use, it honestly works just as easily as if you’re swiping your credit card but faster.
Here are the kinds of logos you’ll see if a store accepts mobile pay.
Places We’ve Used Mobile Pay
We’ve been surprised by all the places that accept mobile pay. We’ll probably max out both of our Chase Freedom’s, earning 15,000 Ultimate Rewards (worth up to $300).
- Chick fil A
- Our local mechanic
- Uber (surprisingly, it’s in the app itself)
- Subway Sandwiches
- Starbucks at the airport
- PCC Supermarket
- Little Caesar’s
