At the beginning of each new quarter, we sit down and talk about which credit cards have new bonus categories to make sure we’re using the right card for every transaction. Today is that day. Here’s a reminder of the new bonus categories for the Discover it Cash and Chase Freedom. Each earns 5% cash back in these categories and has no annual fee.
Discover it Cash
The Discover it Cash is giving 5% cash back at grocery stores this quarter, which is a fantastic category for almost everyone. You’ll earn 5% on up to $1,500 spent between now and the end of March. Plus, Discover doubles all your cash back at the end of your first year as a cardholder.
If you don’t yet have this card, you get a $50 statement credit after your first purchase for using our referral link.
The Chase Freedom is earning 5% cash back in the form of Ultimate Rewards at gas stations, drug stores, and on tolls. Similar to the Discover it Cash, you’ll earn this on up to $1,500 spent between now and the end of March.
We love the ways the Discover it Cash and Chase Freedom bonus categories complement each other. If you carry both cards, earning 5% on groceries, gas, tolls, and at drug stores can be a big chunk of your budget. With no annual fee, we love them enough to carry two of each.
Disney Gift Cards
For this quarter, your best angle on Disney gift cards with either of these cards is the Discover it Cash at grocery stores when they’re offering a fuel points promotion on gift card purchases (it’s pretty common). OR, if the Chase Offers rebate program gives 10% back at a place like Walgreens, which sells Disney gift cards. We’ll let you know when these take place.
