We have two IHG credit cards in our house that we almost never use. Why? Because for the $49 annual fee you get a free night at any IHG hotel on your card member anniversary each year. This includes hotels that cost $1,000 a night like the Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort Thalasso Spa (although you’d have to get to Bora Bora). It’s one of the best perks on any credit card.
This summer, we used our IHG free nights at the Orange Lake Resort near Animal Kingdom. When you use points (35,000 a night) or your free night certificate, you get a 2 Bedroom Villa with a full kitchen that sleeps up to 8 people. It’s 1,200 square feet and usually costs around $250 a night in the summer.
Here’s more about our stay at the Orange Lake Resort from this summer.
This Card Perk Is Getting Better
IHG Purchases Kimpton Hotels
Back in 2014, IHG announced they were buying Kimpton Hotels, a high-end boutique hotel brand. Founded in the early 1980s, Kimpton was the pioneer in the boutique hotel movement. Rather than making every hotel look the same, boutique hotels are designed around what makes each community unique. It has now become an important strategy for every major hotel chain.
IHG and Kimpton Rewards Programs Merging
Kimpton had a very popular rewards program for their frequent guests. IHG decided to take their time in merging the programs. Recently, IHG made the announcement that the programs will become one in early 2018. The changes are not great for Kimpton loyalists, but they’re really great for people with IHG credit cards because of the free night you’ll be able to redeem at Kimpton hotels.
Using Your Free Night at Kimpton Hotels for Disney Vacations
While there aren’t any Kimpton Hotels in Orlando or Anaheim, there are some great options in both areas for extended vacations. Here are some of the hotels we’re excited about:
- Kimpton Shorebreak Hotel (Huntington Beach)
- Kimpton Everly Hotel (Hollywood)
- Kimpton Hotel Palomar (Beverly Hills)
- Kimpton Hotel Wilshire (Los Angeles)
- Kimpton La Peer Hotel (West Hollywood)
- Kimpton Vero Beach Hotel & Spa (Vero Beach, FL)
- Kimpton Hotel Zamora (St. Petersburg, FL)
Most of these hotels run between $250 and $500 a night, depending on the season. We especially like the option on Huntington Beach since that’s only a 30 minute drive from Disneyland. It’s also probably the closest and best beach option for trips to Disneyland. But, each of the hotels listed would be a great extension to any Disney vacation.
