We’ve been providing you lots of great ways to get free flights and hotel stays on your Disney vacations, but at some point you’ve got to “pay the piper.” Discounted Disney gift cards can be great way to further reduce the cost of your trip for those expensive park tickets and meals. So, we’ve added our series on creative ways to save on Disney gift cards. You can read more in the series HERE.
We’re going to look at purchasing a $1,000 of Disney gift cards with the Chase Freedom at BJs Wholesale Club. We’ll also consolidate our Disney gift cards using a Disney Vacation Account. These three things combined will get you $1,020 in Disney gift cards for $902.40, a 11.53% discount.
BJs Wholesale Club
BJs is currently selling $100 Disney gift cards for $94.99 and you do not need to be a member to purchase them. You can order any quantity at that price. As you can see below, we added 10 $100 gift cards to our cart for a subtotal of $949.90. They recently stopped charging for shipping, so we’ll avoid that potential fee.
The Chase Freedom is a card we highly recommend for having no annual fee and offering 5% cash back in rotating quarterly categories (up to $1,500 spent each quarter). For the 4th quarter, Chase is including wholesale clubs like BJs in that 5% cash back category. So in this case, you spend $949.90 on $1,000 worth of Disney gift cards at BJs and get $47.50 back from Chase, bringing the cash you’ve spent down to $902.40.
Disney Vacation Account
The Disney Vacation Account is a free tool offered by Disney to help you save for a Disney vacation. You can set up automatic transfers into the account, track your progress saving for your vacation and more. You can even use it to consolidate your gift cards, a great tool for this example.
For every $1,000 you spend on a Disney vacation through your DVA account, Disney will send you a $20 gift card. Spend $2,000 and you’ll get $40 in gift cards. To receive the gift card, you need to have an active account for 120 days before you spend the money. Also, it will take them 4-6 weeks to mail your gift cards according to the website. We’ve personally used the DVA, and with a little bit of planning, we found it to be a great tool.
