Disneyland is going through a hotel boom right now. There are a large number of hotel projects in the works and many of them are great for those of us who love using points. There will be some great new options from Starwood, Marriott, Hilton, and even a new luxury Disney hotel.
We’ve created an interactive map with pictures and basic details for some of our favorite new projects.
You Should Collect Starwood or Marriott Points
Currently, Hyatt and Starwood or Marriott are tied in our opinion for the best hotel options on points at Disneyland. But, in a few years, Starwood and Marriott will be the clear winner.
You may recall, Marriott bought Starwood in 2016. While they currently run both loyalty programs separately, you can transfer points easily between both programs (one Starwood point is worth 3 Marriott points).
Current Starwood and Marriott Hotel Options
If you look at our Disneyland Top 10, you’ll see the Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park Entrance (Marriott) and Sheraton Park Anaheim (Starwood) near the top. Both hotels offer really good value for the points you’ll spend.
Future Starwood and Marriott Hotel Options
Element by Westin
This mid-tier Starwood hotel opens in late 2018 or early 2019. Located just over a half mile from the promenade between Disneyland and DCA, the Element will provide a really good economical option on points.
It will mostly likely be a Category 3 or 4 Starwood hotel (7,000 or 10,000 points per night). Over 80% of all Element Hotels in North America fall into either of these two categories.
Four Point by Sheraton
The Hotel Menage is currently undergoing renovation to become a Four Points by Sheraton. It should be completed before the end of 2017. It’s also just over a half mile walk from Disneyland. When Starwood first acquired this property, it became a category 3 hotel (7,000). It was a bit of a stretch as a category 3, so we’re hoping it will stay that way after the renovation is completed.
This will be one of the four diamond hotels coming to Anaheim. Located across the street from Cars Land, the combination of luxury and convenience will be hard to pass up. We anticipate this will be a category 5 Starwood hotel, requiring between 12,000 and 16,000 points per night. It’s expected to open in 2020.
JW Marriott – Garden Walk
Another four diamond hotel coming to Disneyland in 2020 is the JW Marriott. Although it’s probably the furthest of the four hotels listed here, it’s still no more than three-quarters of a mile walk. This hotel is likely to end up a category 8 Marriott hotel. If so, it will cost you 40,000 Marriott points or 13,333 Starwood points.
The Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card is your best option in our opinion. It comes with a 25,000 point sign up bonus after spending $3,000 in the first three months. Plus, each point is worth about 2.4 cents each, which means you’re earning about 2.4% back on your daily purchases, more than most other rewards cards.
